Joseph (Giuseppe) John Monaco was born on May 30, 1931, in Bridgeport, Connecticut to Herman, 33 and Lucy, 29. He had one sister, Nancy, and three brothers; John, Carman, and Marty.

Joe served in the US Army during the Korean War, reaching the rank of Corporal.

During the 1950's and 60's, Joe ran a basement recording studio, called "Dynamic Sound" in Hicksville, Long Island, NY. He worked closely with producer George "Shadow" Morton, and many up-and-coming artists, such as the Shangri-Las, Billy Joel, The Beattle-Ettes, The Pussycats, The Markeys / The Lonely Ones, Sal Mure, & Vanilla Fudge. He is credited with co-writing several songs.
During the late 60's/early 70's, he owned a 7-Eleven franchise at 756 Main St, Farmingdale, NY 11735. He even won a trip to Paris for having the cleanest 7-Eleven.

He had three sons and one daughter with Diana Nelson between 1975 and 1991.

Joe Monaco died on April 7, 2020, in Bay Shore, New York, at the age of 88, and was buried in East Farmingdale, New York.
